January 2012

January 13th-15th had Coconut Creek Debate competing at the 25th Annual Crestian hosted by Pine Crest School. The best in the nation descended this historic tournament along with our very own Cougar Debaters. At three grueling days, the duo team of Justin Sheehan (9th) and Brenda Scolmeister (12th) made it to the final round of competition. Brenda Scolmeister also made it to a semi-final round in dramatic interpretation. Justin Sheehan competed in another event as well (humorous interpretation). Angel Mallory (12th) also competed in the dramatic interpretation event. When the dust cleared, against all the competition and adversity, the duo team of Justin and Brenda rained supreme over many other prestigious schools winning the 7th round final slot for the entire event. This is amazing considering we had three students in fields with teams of 30 and 40 competing. We have made our niche and will continue to do so in the upcoming Florida Forensic League's Regional Qualifier Tournament February 4th! Go Creek!

November 2011

After a long and exhausting weekend at the Blue Key Invitational Debate Tournament hosted by the University of Florida, Coconut Creek came home with several awards.  First, Brooke Guenther (junior) completed in Lincoln Douglas Debate.  Her full score went 4 wins with 2 loses. She almost broke to the final rounds.  Congratulations to her.  As for our Speech competitors, the Duo Team of Justin Sheehan (a freshman and his first tournament ever) and Brenda Scolmeister (senior) came into the semi-final rounds of the competition against some of the best in the nation.  Brenda also came to the quarter final rounds in Dramatic Interpretation.  Coconut Creek, this shows the skills we have to compete at a national level while only being in our second year as a program.   Go Creek!

October 2011

The Florida State Poets Association Inc. presents: Anthology Twenty-Nine has just released.  In her 10th Grade year, Neichie Etienne, under the writing guidance and mentoring of Mr. DelPercio, has placed 2nd in the Florida Writing Poetry Contest and now she is published in the Anthology! It is a major achievement and honor to be published and printed for anyone, let alone at such an early age. This is great proof of what you can achieve when you try your best! Congratulations to Neichie Etienne and Mr. DelPercio. This is Cougar Pride at its best.

Coconut Creek High School has just returned from our first attendance of the Nova Titan Invitational and Bid Tournament (that means it is a country-wide tournament and yes, students from all over the country flew in to compete).  Well, we were definitely successful!  Kiara Jusino (11), in just her second tournament ever, broke into the Final Round (a very difficult task) and took home 5th place! Angel Mallory (12) took home the best Novice Award (and it was her first tournament ever!).  Brooke Guenther (11) and Jason Yu (12) both took multiple wins as well during this tournament!! If you see any of these students, be sure to congratulat them on their hard work and dedication!!

September 2011

We just finished our first Debate Tournament outing at Fort Lauderdale High School's 17th Annual Flying "L"s Debate.  Brooke Guenther completed in Lincoln Douglas Debate and went with a record of 3-2.  Brenda Scolmeister competed for the first time since her National Tournament in Dallas this summer and is still working through the new dramatic peices and skills of acquiring a new peice but did take a couple third places in her first few rounds.  The next step is in the Nova After School Novice Tournament where we have 4 novice debaters going for the first time.  Later in October, we have the Blue Key Invitational during Halloween Weekend.  Wish us luck and we will have more details soon.
